Boris Johnson has written to 28 million British households, warning things will “get worse before they get better”.

In his letter, to be sent out this week, he says he “will not hesitate to go further” if tougher lockdown measures are needed.

It comes as the UK’s coronavirus death toll rose to 1,228 after another 209 people died from the outbreak today.
