Not only am I had at using numbers but I'm bad at even remembering them. If there is a book or movie with words and numbers I can't remember the number part. So I have to refer to "Fahrenheit something" or "Report from Engine Company something or other"

I feel like an alien species advanced enough to travel between stars in less time than it would take light via some mechanism we've either never considered, or incapable of replicating ourselves (Wormholes) at this time, would likely be smart enough to realize you can gather the resources your species need to survive from planets uninhabited by life. There would be no need to "conquer" other species and enslave them. I would wager that a species that advanced would have perfected automation to a degree that organic and sentient slaves would be inefficient.

I would certainly hope that a species that advanced would be Star Trek/Stargate levels of dumb.

Though it is not a perfect comparison; I would say "Radfems" are the female version of "Incels"

Don't know if anyone has already said this; did not read the comments...heh. Also, I think TERFS toe that line.

Hey guys! Huge fan, got no job right now, and I can edit videos. HMU if you were serious.

I don't need the shout out. I just love you guys, and would love to help out if I can! (Plus it means I'd get to see your stuff before everyone else, and that's pretty groovy)

I was worried about that Ojeda guy running personally. I'm glad he dropped out, he seemed like a Republican running on a Democratic ticket (which is a lot of Democrats honestly). I'd vote for Bernie personally but I don't know about everyone else. AOC absolutely I would, soon enough I think. I haven't researched him but I'm hearing about Yang is a good progressive pick, Idk yet though. I like Warrens ideas and messages but she doesn't seem to have the back bone when people give her shit about this native American thing, If she makes it through the primaries I'll vote for her though. Kamala already backpedaling on healthcare is a major issue and is a problem I'm going to have with most democrats. I also see them doing this on the margin tax as well. So Bernie/Yang are the only real prospects for me right now. It's early though..

Dear Hugo and Jake, around minute six, you get into the etymology of the words "eleven" and "twelve" and get a few facts wrong. First, English is not a Romance language, it is a Germanic Language with some Latin influences through Old French, thanks to the Norman Conquest in 1066. However, the number eleven comes from the Proto-Germanic "ainalif", meaning “one left”, as in "One left after ten", where it became endleofan in Old English. Similarly, "twelve" comes from the proto-Germanic from Proto-Germanic "twalif", meaning "two left", as in "two left after ten", before it became "twelf" in Old English.

I'm not American but I'll give you folks a piece of advice. If you are going to vote (which you shouldn't), do NOT vote for the female candidates. Every single one is running just so she can be the first vagina in the fancy chair. They don't care about you or the country, just the position of power. They're just going to regurgitate Hilary's points plus the "I'm a woman" card over and over again. They're running for all sorts of positions but the mindset and goal is the same: to be the first woman in charge. Does it sound misogynistic? You decide if you're stupid enough to believe that.

Careful there. INCEL means, supposedly because it's a false word, Involuntary Celibacy. So, someone who has tried but can't get laid, be it male or female. MGTOW is exclusively male and it's not a group or movement. It's a philosophy of sorts. A life choice, like choosing to wear shorts in a blizzard but not mentally retarded. The latter has a valid reason to exist. I've not seen one complain how we're "slave to women's whims" but discriminated against and vilified by a gynocentric society and legal system, from the divorce court to civil trials, federal trials and all points in between. I.e: It's harassment when a man compliments a woman's looks, it's empowering seduction when a woman barely dresses to get out of the house. It's rape when the woman doesn't consent (obviously), it's a fetish when the man doesn't consent. And yes, I've been victim of the former and know male victims of the latter. I'll avoid a wall of text but do not throw INCEL in the same bag as MGTOW. The former is involuntary. The later is a conscious calculated decision.

Don't worry, Hugo, a lot of people say "ironic" when they mean "sarcastic". And most native English speakers don't know the difference between "there", "they're" and "their" or "your" and "you're". You're sparkling compared to that lot.

Japanese numbers denote numbers with two digits by following the first digit number with "ten" (unless the first digit is one, in which case they just say "ten", not "one ten") followed by the second digit. I'm not sure what you were getting at when you said math in Japan is easier because of their numerical system, but I'd love to hear the point you were trying to make.

Here's the literal translation of Japanese numbers.

    10 Ten
    11 Ten one
    12 Ten two
    13 Ten three

    20 Two ten
    21 Two ten one
    22 Two ten two

100 hundred (The word is used similarly to ten in that they wouldn't say "one hundred")
336 Three hundred three ten six

3333 three thousand three hundred three ten three
(San sen san hyaku san ju san)

Dear Hidalgo and whatever Hugo's manhood is named, do you guys have a movie that gives you actual hatred? Eragon is the only movie that has ever given me such a visceral reaction cause it fucks EVERYTHING up from its source material so much it's baffeling. Pisses me off just thinking about it. Saw it in theaters with the book and my brother an cousins when i was in sixth grade, i think, came out so pissed off we all yelled about everything it got wrong the whole night. Had reread the book just to get it off my mind.

Mother is a great sacrilegious movie (also, aronofsky is an atheist). If you watch it closely, you'll see that the whole movie is about religion ignoring the basic fact that women are required for any procreation, while men can only use and provoke destruction without them. Even god's char in the movie requires mother's life to create the world. You'll even notice a bunch of imagery/scenes related to how women are ignored, abused, used, and hated by the world.

German does the same thing (so it's probably a Latin based language thing). Eins, zwei, drei, vier, funf, sechts, sieben, auct, nuen, zhen, elf, zwolf, dreizhen, veirzhen, etc.

Funny cause I'm shit at memorizing too and that's why I could never for the life of me memorize historical facts for longer. I find maths a lot easier. I guess everyone is better with concepts - it's what is easier for us to conceptualize that varies.

    Resident Sumerologist to the rescue!

I think you mean the apocrypha, which is the term for the books of the bible that didn't make it into the bible. (as protestant and catholic bibles differ in content, so do the apocrypha - what is apocryphal in one version might not be in the other!).
One of these apocrypha are the Books of Enoch, particularly the Ethiopian version. In those, some of the angels of god fall for the comely daughters of man, give them all sorts of knowledge and produce the Nephilim. Which are what Aronofsky alludes to in "Noah". The 'lady with the nocturnal emissions' does not feature in there, she can be found mentioned once in the OT (I think it's Jeremiah 14 34?), and then in the Alphabet ben Sirah and other Jewish mystical works. The basic form of Lilith goes back to the Old Babylonian period, when the Semitic Babylonians adapted the Sumerian wind-spirits LÍL, but due to a secondary semantic transfer (*lyl is Common Semitic for "night" and sounds similar to LÍL "wind, breath") the critters were turned into sexually unfulfilled night-spirits. They were conceptualised as.not having known sexual fulfillment before their early deaths, who then continue to sexually haunt the living. That is where the talmudic scholars got their idea of Lilith, the night demoness who causes nightly "pollutions", from ;)

i hate to burst your guy's bubble, but Bernie is clearly the best option we as a country have for 2020

p.s. Bernie isn't "too old", quit being ageist unless you guys would like yet another corporatist piece of shit to take office? no? then please quit spreading bullshit about the one candidate that can actually help this county out.

Unless we want a repeat of 2016, Elizabeth Warren cannot get the nomination. I'm sorry but in order for us to beat Trump and overcome Russian hacking, we need a moderate that independents and those who have left the Republican party bc of Trump can vote for. The guy from Colorado who's a moderate and a no name would be perfect. But it absolutely cannot be a far left progressive.

It's too soon for Tulsi Gabbard. I'm all for people who were once on the wrong side of the fence (e.g., LGBT stuff, and vehemently, maybe virulently so) being able to come to Jesus, so to speak, but it's too soon. She's a Representative, not Senator. God bless her, and I hope she continues to do good work all around, but President? Yeah, in any case, not yet. If anyone could make a credible grab to jump from the House to the White House, I'd say we'll have to stick around for Ocasio-Cortez in 2028. Also, point taken on maybe not having a woman candidate in 2020, but look at the midterms ... women got activated after 2016. Also also, yes, that was better than Russell Crowe.

Rumors are Bernie is preparing to announce his candidacy, in which case he has my vote over Warren. Until he announces, I'm voting for her. Kamala Harris has a bad record against low-level drug offenses (defending 3 strikes laws, laughing at the idea of legalizing pot, defending civil asset forfeiture). I considered Tulsi Gabbard, but her defense of the CIA torture report is disqualifying in my opinion.

the thing about the way numbers are grouped in east asian languages reminds me of how i was tripped up by numbers in japanese because of the 10s of thousands place thing that we don't have in our number system.
